Access control

A door that knows who is allowed in.

Alarm.com, Kantech and Keyscan. Cards, fobs, codes and phone credentials. A door can lock after close, and the log shows who entered.

Door with a card reader

What is on the system

A reader, a lock, and a list of who may enter

Readers

A reader on the doors that should not be a key. Staff doors, suite entries, server rooms and gates are chosen on the walk-through, not from a fixed door count.

Credentials

Cards, fobs, codes or a phone credential. One person can have more than one door, and a credential can stop working the day a shift, a tenancy or a job ends.

Door hardware

The reader is only half of the door. A strike, a mag lock or an electrified lock has to match the door. The proposal names the hardware, not just the reader.

Schedules

A door can unlock for business hours and lock itself after close. After hours, only the people on the list get in.

The log

Each granted and refused entry is stored. You can see who came through a door, and when, without standing at the door.

The lines we install

Alarm.com, Kantech and Keyscan

Alarm.com

Doors on the same app as the alarm. A useful fit when the site already has a Qolsys panel and needs a reader on a staff door, a gate or a lock, without a second system to learn.

Kantech

A commercial system for more than one door. EntraPass holds the cards, the schedules and the log. Used for offices, back-of-house doors and buildings where each tenant or department needs its own access.

Keyscan

Aurora software with Keyscan controllers, common on Canadian commercial sites. Cards, schedules and a door-by-door log, run from a computer on site or from the software the client already uses.

If a Kantech or Keyscan system is already on the doors and still supported, it can stay. The proposal says whether the readers and the software are kept or replaced.

By property

The doors follow how the building is used

Retail stores

The staff door and the door from the shop to the stock room. The shop can stay open to customers while the back stays on a card.

Warehouses

The office entry, the dock pedestrian door and the yard gate. A credential can be limited to a shift, so it does not work after close.

Offices

The lobby, the suite door and any room that should not be on the same key as the rest of the floor. A person who leaves loses the card the same day.
